Friendly students/lovely campus and city! Student support could be improved with more open staff and more financial support.

More contact hours would be useful

Incredible housing, location is slightly complicated due to being slightly isolated, but the halls were incredible

The work that York puts into student wellbeing is definitely one of the reasons why it’s such an amazing university, because unlike others I’ve heard about (through friends studying there) it feels like the uni actually cares about the students. My only downside currently is that the timetabling for the masters is really weird - we have consolidation week and then one more week with no classes for no reason, but our semester runs really late into December - I think it would be much better to have three weeks off for Christmas rather than only two (it makes getting holiday work a lot harder too, and for people funding their own studies, this is difficult to manage).

We don’t have much contact time at all (6 hours a week of classes) which is a bit disappointing considering how much we’re paying for the course. I feel like not having lectures is a poor choice. However, the academic staff are very committed to their students and classes are always very interesting, and they offer office hours and are very easy to contact outside of class time too for help which is good.

Quite outdated in areas and there were silverfish but it was definitely one of the nicest accommodation blocks on campus. The location was lovely (especially for Alcuin new quad) and I’d say it’s also one of the better value for money accommodations too
