The Students Union is brilliant — there’s always loads going on and something to do, places to meet your friends and sit with a coffee.

I have about 9 contact hours a week with my lecturers but most of them are always on hand to answer emails pretty quickly or happy to meet you in their office hours. The course itself is really interesting and intellectually challenging.

Sheffield isn’t a hugely expensive place to live but it is a city so some things will be pricey. It’s a safe place to live with great greenery - the Peak District is literally 20 minutes away in the car. Public transportation is usually pretty good with trams and buses, and there’s plenty to do around the city centre. For engineers I think graduate opportunities are more frequent than for other subjects but part time work is easy to find in any sector. There’s a big international student body at the university but diversity isn’t huge in Sheffield. Overall though, it’s an amazing city that makes you feel right at home by not being huge, but still being somewhere you can see yourself thriving.

Honestly, Crewe is the best value for money accom in Sheffield. It’s shared bathroom but the rooms are huge - the biggest I’ve seen in uni halls. Flats are mostly between 6-9 people and most are built vertically so they’re split between floors, so you get a bit of privacy but you’re still involved in the flat. People who go to Crewe are some of the best people you’ll meet.

Really good university, especially all the societies - there is something for everyone. Loads of support! Cv review services is amazing and so helpful, friendly lectures.
