Excellent teaching, interesting course choices and hardworking staff. It's just a pity that the Scottish government allows free education to their country members and the EU as the university then needs to pull in loads of uk and international students to make up enough money to keep running. This means that the University is completely overcrowded - lectures are in ridiculous places, students are being forced to live miles from the University and classes are too big.

University facilities are not enough to deal with the number of students the university brings in. This won't be fixed for another 20 years as the Western Infirmary site won't be ready and the University has yet to consider limiting the number of students they take in. This means that is nearly impossible to get a seat in the library any time of year and that the top classes are massively oversubscribed.

The Careers service is underfunded and the staff have no specialist knowledge of what they should be doing other than pointing people to webpages that can easily be found by googling. I received better careers advice at my school (was state schooled.) The Counselling and Psychological services do a terrible job and the people who attend are limited in number of appointments they can make. Considering the massive increases in the number of students needing counselling, the University has not changed. The Students Representative Council (the body that is supposed to represent students to the university) acts like it is a social group rather than a serious body. There is also an air of superiority among them which adds to this. Few of them actually properly interact with the bodies they are supposed to represent and support.The four executive members are the only people who actually do a decent job and I presume that is because they are being paid to do specific work. The rest of the council spends money on food and decorations for their council "meetings" most of which they do not attend. A significant number had little to no competition to get to their jobs and have made no changes or effort while there. The same people are "elected" every year because they promise to make changes and work hard, really it's because they want to keep their social group and "perks."
