Best - Gorgeous university with very helpful seminar leaders. Lots of opportunities to get involved even if you’re not part of a society. Wide range of clubs for all different interests. Events held that have speakers from different fields that may be of interest to you. Worst - Not all lectures come across as compulsory (e.g., entirely based on one book that you may not want to write about), so sometimes only 6 lecturers are actually necessary for an entire module which can feel like a waste.

Best - Insightful lectures who have been impactful in their research field. Mostly in-person which I personally think helps me retain information and feel more inclined to work harder. Lectures and Seminar Tutors respond quickly to emails. Worst - Career prospects were only very loosely mentioned to the entire course at the start of 1st year. Additionally, external opportunities are only really mentioned in emails, e.g., I only found out that my course had the opportunity for a semester abroad when the deadline to sign up had already passed as a lecturer offhandedly mentioned that some of us may not be here for all of second year.

Student halls are much cheaper on average than at other universities. Nightlife is amazing. Very sociable city. Easy to get to the coast via Metro. Part-Time jobs are very competitive, most people I know job searched for 3+ months before even getting an interview.

Best - Lovely, modern student accommodation. En-suite as standard. Large kitchen. On-site gym and games room. Easy to socialise once you meet people. Worst - Some issues took weeks to address. I stayed in Turner Court which does not have a fob and instead you must have two separate items of a card and a key to get in. The card was very easy to lose as on a night out it would easily slip out of your pocket and you couldn’t attach it to a key ring, This led to expensive replacements for many of my friends.

The uni is beautiful but there has been a lot of construction on major buildings. This has caused some disruption

The literature classes are interesting subjects but not very in-depth

The location is great and the building is very new. I didn’t get an offer until a week before leaving though, which was very stressful. This is also a more expensive residence which is unfortunate
