My time at the University of Wolverhampton has been both rewarding and transformative. From the outset, I was impressed by the supportive and approachable academic staff, who have always encouraged independent thinking while providing guidance when needed. The teaching is practical and engaging, with a strong focus on developing critical analysis, problem-solving, and advocacy skills — all of which have been invaluable in preparing me for a career at the Bar. Beyond academics, the University has offered numerous opportunities for personal growth. Serving as a Course Representative and Student Ambassador allowed me to develop leadership, communication, and organisational skills in real-world settings. Participating in societies such as the Law Society and Mooting Club gave me practical experience in teamwork, debating, and public speaking, further reinforcing my interest in legal advocacy. The University’s inclusive and vibrant environment has also been a major factor in my positive experience. Collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds has broadened my perspectives and enhanced my ability to work effectively with different people — a skill essential for a future in law. Overall, my experience at Wolverhampton has equipped me with both the academic grounding and the practical skills needed to excel in my legal career. It has been an environment that challenges, supports, and inspires, and I feel confident that the experiences and skills I have gained here will serve as a strong foundation as I pursue opportunities such as mini-pupillages and, ultimately, pupillage at the Bar.

One of the best aspects of my course at the University of Wolverhampton has been the balance between taught sessions and independent learning, which has allowed me to engage deeply with the material while developing strong self-discipline. The interactive, in-person seminars have been particularly valuable for discussing case studies, debating legal principles, and receiving immediate feedback from tutors. I have found these sessions crucial for honing my critical thinking, oral advocacy, and ability to structure arguments — skills that are directly transferable to a future career at the Bar. Another strength has been the practical application of theory through coursework and assessments. Assignments often require not just regurgitation of law but independent analysis, problem-solving, and presentation of well-reasoned conclusions. This has challenged me to think like a lawyer, improving both my written and verbal communication. The inclusion of group projects and mooting exercises has also fostered teamwork, leadership, and the confidence to articulate points in a professional setting. However, the course has its challenges. Some modules are fully online, which can make it harder to engage with tutors and peers compared to in-person teaching. While the online resources are excellent, I have found that the lack of live interaction in certain sessions sometimes limits the spontaneity of discussion and debate. Additionally, the volume of coursework and deadlines can be intense, requiring careful time management to balance multiple assessments alongside extracurricular commitments such as the Law Society, mooting, and student ambassador roles. Overall, the course offers a highly rewarding combination of rigorous academic training, practical skill development, and opportunities for personal growth. Even its challenges have strengthened my organisational, problem-solving, and self-directed learning skills-preparing me well for both pupillage and a career at the Bar.
