OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Swansea is simply amazing. It's got everything I wanted from a University when I first applied. Not only is the location of the Uni amazing, but the courses and modules on offer are interesting, engaging and promote future career planning.
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
I take modules designed to prepare me for the professional world (for example Spanish and German for Professional Purposes and Spanish Professional Career Planning). Outside of formal modules, the uni offers the Swansea Employability Award which students can complete in their own time alongside their degree regardless of what year of study they are in. Furthermore, the student's progress is saved meaning I can continue the award after my year abroad and pick up where I left off.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The language department is full of native speakers. Furthermore, it's evident that the staff are proud of what they teach. The lecturers also go out of their way to help students with any issues they have whether it be uni related or personal. In addition to this, they promote active language learning outside of the uni by promoting language exchange programmes that aren't affiliated with the uni directly.
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Amazing union! Events constantly on Facebook. Prices are great for students on budgets too. The Union also promotes being politically engaged within Swansea City etc.
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
6 bed terrace 15 minute walk from uni. Not massive but definitely adequately sized for me and my house mates. Also 15 minute walk from the city centre with convenience stores round the corner. Perfect student accommodation.
How good are your university's facilities?
Uni facilities are adequate and always fill the purpose for the lecture. Some are outdated but the uni has, and is, receiving funding and investment to renovate.
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Swansea city life is amazing. Plenty of shops for the average student. Night life is AMAZING in Wind St. Appart from the regular high st. shops, Swansea also has a huge indoor market, beach and marina!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Societies are amazing. Loads of them to choose from and the Union offers not just fresher's week, but also "give it a go week" which means you have the opportunity to join societies at any point during the year.
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The uni offers loads of resources for support whether it be related to money, health, essays or emotional support. All the staff are really caring and ready to help.
