The advice I put to anyone who is embarking on university is to definitely consider Sheffield. Sheffield is a good city with many good transport links. However one thing about university life is a must is to enjoy it while it lasts. I don't feel like I've been here long and already we are thinking about when we finish our studies. Really enjoy every aspect and try to get involved as much as possible. At Sheffield they offer lots and lots of clubs and societies to join.

The city itself is great and there are always places to go to for whatever you're interested in. The students' union is really impressive and everyone is welcoming and supportive.

Though we don't have many contact hours, it is still efficient for language learning as much of learning languages comes from self-immersion anyway. However, Japanese does not get as much contact time which makes it very difficult to process at the speed we progress.

The amenities are decent and the location is okay, though it can be very noisy. The self-select process is really strong though and means that most people have great flatmates with shared interests.
