The University of Portsmouth provides amazing facilities. In the creative course’s building they have screen printing rooms/a fully equipped workshop (drills/sanding)/3D printers/ green screen room/vacuum forming , etc. There are so many pieces of machinery and technology that no matter what you’re choosing to study you’ll be able to make the most of the resources to experiment and produce your work to your best ability. The university also have amazing connections which enables us to learn from the best and provides us with only the best opportunities.

My course is a mixture of lectures/seminars and studio time. The lectures are basically a time used to explain what we are expected to do as well as providing us with helpful information to support us in our work. The studio time does sometimes include help and group work but for the majority of it we get on with what we’re behind on or currently working on. The lectures are well spread out so we don’t spend too much time sat in lecture halls.

The amenities included in the rent are good, we are provided with a fully functioning kitchen. There are washing machines/tumble dryers in their own room on the ground floor too , and as much as they’re a little pricey they’re still required.

Finishing my degree at UoP has been a great experience for me. I have made a good network of friends and tutors that have helped me excel in the almost 2 years I’ve been with them.

I’ve not had trouble accessing necessary programs and software relevant to my course. The university has created a remote access service for all students who are shielding or can’t travel to campus. From the start of the pandemic the university has taken serious measures to provide a clean and healthy campus, marking seating areas, covering communal equipment and creating a one way system.

I had an issue last year with student finance and the University finance team were very helpful in resolving my issue. They were consistent and always on top of things to help solve the issue and we’re personal about it which was very reassuring.

3rd year has been getting mixed opinions from everyone due to obvious changes. However I notice tutors are still putting in effort to contact and provide a good amount of support despite the blended learning situation. As a direct entry to the university from 2nd year, I believe I progressed massively from the previous institution I attended.

An option to go into placement from second year was available and a careers team specific for creatives were present and always willing to help, from CV checks to finding suitable roles. In my final year we have a module set on working in practice, giving us an opportunity to look into and speak to individuals that are currently in industry as well as developing our job application and interview skills.
