University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
It's been great. Definitely challenging. A massive learning curve not only in terms of my degree but about myself. It's not all night outs and booze as you'd think, there's so much oppertunity to strengthen your character and broaden your experiences. Apprehensive about my final year, but by then I'll have the courage to put in the hard work!
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
So good. The library has everything you need, online and physically. Plenty of up to date lecture halls, great variety of shops and restaurants. The sports centre is amazing, brand new. 67 bridge street is fab, loads of places to study but also have fun
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Personal tutorial meetings are great, I get to have a better relationship with my lecturer and a one on one opportunity for feedback from assessments. The well-being services are great, prompt. Help for all issues from anxiety to exam stress. The multi faith centre is great too if you just need to talk, or some time alone
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I don't get involved because I don't like the crowededness of the events that are run there, the SU isnt very big.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Derby is a bit boring, night life is poor. But as a city it has everything you could possibly need in close proximity
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Great variety and choice, you could also make your own
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The lecturers are extremely assessible and friendly, my course has such a broad variety of content and allows you to pick modules to tailor your degree to what you want to do in the future. Also, extremely well funded, lab sessions are super fun
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Employability days, internships, high fliers, student hub, loads of places to go to for advice!
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Super nice! Well looked after, modern, maintenance issues are sorted promptly, cool events are always on, RA's and the site manager are really friendly, makes me contemplate if I should stay for my final year!
