Brighton is an amazing place to study. It has a lovely combination of outdoor spaces (beaches, national parks) and city life with great shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. It is an amazing environment for an enjoyable student life to compliment your studies and given Brighton's nature, it is also a very inclusive place to study. I have found this to be so important to your academic success. The Campus is in a lovely location which looks stunning all year round, with a variety of cafes, bars and food venders scattered across the campus. The public transport is excellent and allows to and from access throughout the day. Despite looking visually impressive, some student facilities feel a little outdated. I would mainly point to Sport's facilities which are well equipped, but not as flashy or modern in comparison to other universities I have visited. However, Sussex is currently undergoing renovations to add more up-to-date spaces. The new Student Centre is a great example of what is to come. While they are many different avenues you can go down to seek support, Student Support also has notoriously long wait times to see a therapist. Although not everyone will need this level of support, it is service that desperately needs more funding. On the other hand, the Student Union is a very proactive space that encourages the student voice and acts upon it.

American Studies and History is a joint honours degree which allows for a great coverage of content. Often the overlap of American History allows you space to take classes on other interests which is great. The staff are also incredibly knowledgeable, which make lectures and seminars really interesting. The stand out feature of this degree is the year abroad you complete in your third year. It is truly one of the best life experiences I have had at present and Sussex gives you an incredible selection of choice across North America. The cost of completing this is incredibly subsidised and gives you the option to do something you may never have the time to do again. I often have people ask about career prospects, but when you break down the degree into viewing it as a combination of History, Politics, English, Law, and even Music and Media, more people see its value in comparison to other Humanities Degrees. It is a great undergraduate course for people who want a more specialised masters, but want a really enjoyable process along the way.

Brighthelm is an incredibly underrated on-campus housing accommodation choice. The difference in them being houses rather than flats creates a lovely homely aesthetic which comes with its own washing machine and tumble dryer! The balconies are amazing in the warmer months and make Brighthelm a really social space.

The library, teachers of the school of English have been so far two sources of my good experience. Personally, for me commutation is a headache and hence, the university’s location is a bit discouraging when it comes to getting involved in university’s activities.

My course is being taught in person and it’s usually through seminars which are quite engaging. The contact hours are limited though, despite it teachers are just at the distance of a mail. The worst part is that there are just 11 meetings in three months which seems limited. There aren’t much questions being asked based on content by the students, doesn’t seem like a thing.
