Great campus and student life experience! On occasion, facilities are outdated/ retro and can feel dirty but overall generally well maintained.

Wide range of lecturer satisfaction. Some are great and thoroughly engaged, going above and beyond. Some feel less engaged and see teaching as a requirement but only care about research

Everything was fantastic. Great sized room, kitchen well stocked. Some people see shared bathrooms as a problem but never really caused an issue for me. Great central location near campus.

The atmosphere at Liverpool is so inviting and welcoming. I made friends within the first few weeks that I'm still friends with 18 months later and I felt at home really quickly too. The lecturers are all passionate about their subject and provide excellent feedback in assessments. They're also always open for further discussion if you want or need it. The range of module options on my course (History) is exemplary, though they do tend to skew towards being more modern or ancient in focus; if you only want to study medieval history, there are certainly some really interesting options but they're less abundant than their modern counterparts. If I had to talk about any negatives of my experience, it would probably be that attendance can be quite low, as you're rarely chased down for missing lectures or seminars. If you're someone who attends everything then this is less of an issue, but it can make in-class discussion more limited if there are less people present.

The best aspect of the History course is definitely the range of modules offered. Though they do focus primarily around modern and ancient, there are still several medieval and early modern modules to appeal to anyone interested in those periods. First year has less optionality as it aims to teach everyone the skills needed to flourish in later years, but second year consists of entirely optional modules. Choosing these modules felt a bit restrictive as they try to make you choose a range of time periods and global settings but this can get confusing and overwhelming, and prevent you from doing modules you really want to do if there are conflicts. The lecturers are all experts in their fields and clearly passionate; if you fully engage in seminars then they're always up for detailed discussions. The course is taught almost entirely in-person, though there are only between 6-10 compulsory contact hours a week (all lecturers have a couple of hours of office hours a week as well) so most study is done privately with weekly readings for seminars, and frequent coursework assignments that could be anything from an essay to a presentation. These assessments aim to appeal to a wide skill range. They're fairly marked and generally returned quickly, always within three weeks.

The allocation of accommodation within the university is first come, first served. I applied for specific uni halls, but ended up allocated a room in private accommodation instead - the link between the university and private accoms is strong. I have several friends who stayed in university accommodation and they were complimentary. There are the same issues that are inevitable everywhere - flatmates you don't get on with, circuit laundry being expensive, etc - but these are not significant when compared to the quality of room you receive. I would still recommend private accommodation over uni accommodation though, as in Liverpool it's cheaper, and often slightly nicer. The location isn't on campus like the uni stuff is, but they're generally no more than a ten minute walk away and the facilities are normally equivalent to that of uni accom.
