Bournemouth is a great town, to both study and live in. The university have various facilities spread all over, so you’re never too far from a familiar space. The campus is inviting, and easy to navigate. There are also various opportunities for students - whether that’s employment or socialising. Bournemouth is littered with social spaces (clubs, cafes, cinemas, etc) so makes a lovely place to hang outside of lectures. The university also offer employment as a Student Ambassador which is a great way to earn some extra money whilst studying. Talbot Campus (main teaching campus) is quite central in Bournemouth, so no matter where you go in Second Year, you’re always close to campus. The academics are also readily available and supportive - the History team go above and beyond!! There isn’t much that I would put to improve, apart from better means of university-wide communication. They do issue a monthly bulletin, which at times is helpful, but something more frequent would improve the student experience - for purposes of student engagement in activities.

My course (History) is very well taught. Lecturers are understanding and always there to help. A factor I love is the staff to student ratio - this helps us get to know our academics and streamline support more easily! The course content is great - one of the best I saw during my university hunt. There is, of course, the odd lecture which doesn’t 100% interest me, but that’s somewhat expected due to subjectivity - I still, however, come out of my lectures feels accomplished. By being situated in the Media and Communication Faculty, the History course has access to fantastic facilities, such as audio equipment and media artifacts. The university, and my course, both stress the importance of career prospects. A service called CareersBU offers professional help with placements and employment (and sticks with you after your graduate). This level of support and career awareness is, in my opinion, exemplary and more accessible than other universities’ services. I would prefer if the contact hours were increased ever so slightly, perhaps by an hour extra a week for that little bit of in person support (but this isn’t a huge detriment as email is always an option with quick reply).

Lyme Regis was a great, middle-ground option for me. The location is superb with being only 5 minutes (walk) away from the train station and supermarkets. Local amenities, the beach and entertainment are also super close - within a short 15/20 minute walk. Lyme Regis is also quite close to other accommodations, which makes it easier to meet up with friends. Bus links are also plentiful. I never had any issues with safety, management, or internet whilst living here. A good perk is that room allocation is self-service, so you are able to see a brief profile of who you’re sharing with. The rooms are big enough, but the upkeep was a bit haphazard - impacting the value for money. For example, during my time there only one lift was in operation for the best part. This wasn’t a major issue, though due to my room being on the 3rd Floor.

It's such a beautiful place. The surrounding areas are really nice. Halls are surprisingly easy to get to and transport links are great and easy to use. Bringing your own car is not recommended but when it becomes summer you'll be really thankful you didn't. Student nightlife is pretty good and some great spots. 2nd year houses are decent and aren't far away from the uni. Probably the worst thing is how expensive being in the south of the country is. But it's not ridiculous just be aware that some things will be more pricey. Best part is the summer as you finish uni and there's still time to have fun down at the beach and surrounding places.

A small knit course. Meaning great contact time with lecturers. Easy to contact and they are super supportive. It's all in person and they suit the course to each specific intake throughout the years. First hears topics set you up perfectly for your time at BU.

Great accommodation. Little bit on the older side. Great space to use. Bit of a way from the University but easy to get to with the transport outside. Great little town in the centre of Poole and train station is super close. Easy links to Bournemouth and can have a bus pass included with rent.
