University is good

I like it but it feels like lots of time wasted

Not much to do

My overall experience at university is amazing. My flatmates, tutors, societies and uni staff are all friendly and encouraging. I would recommend Portsmouth University for sixth form students.

Portsmouth’s facilities are very good for my course. They have various workshops and studios which are also open to students doing similar art or filming courses. My lecture building provides another library for the uni.

Portsmouth offers welfare facilities such as counselling, one-on-one tutor talks, catch-up sessions etc. The university has supported me several times since I’ve arrived at their university.

The student union is great - their shop is priced well for students, and their bar area is very welcoming. I am involved in the union’s societies which are full of people from different courses, halls, ethnicity etc. The union helps us all meet and befriend each other.

The city is a nice balance of quiet and loud. The shopping centres are close to my accommodation and they always have student discounts. Living by a train station is also very beneficial, as well as living by the city’s popular clubs too.

The clubs tend to get busy quite easily - however the nightlife is still amazing! Drinks are a good price for uni students as well as the entry fees. Societies tend to often meet up and go to clubs together which I think is a nice idea. Societies often come out as groups on Purple Wednesdays.

The thing I like the most about illustration, is that you have the freedom to use various forms of art to create an image. However, I do tend to struggle with drawing in groups, as I tend to feel quite pressured about other people’s abilities.

My university has encouraged me to take part in a placement year, which I think will help rn frass my employability as well as my professionality. Portsmouth also has a careers department, whose staff are very helpful.

My accommodation is very modern. The rooms are a perfect size and the kitchen is nice and spacious. The common room on the 19th floor gives an amazing view of Portsmouth, and it has beanbags too :) The receptionists are very kind and helpful too.
