I’ve really enjoyed starting my course - it’s really interesting and very rewarding . However, I struggled a lot, especially early on, to get used to living away from home. I wish I had been better informed about how much of a jump it is to live on your own.

For German, it’s entirely seminars for the first year (no lectures) and while I see the benefit of this as it is a language, it’s very daunting having to do a lot of group work and group discussion. The linguistics side is one lecture and one seminar per module per week. I think this works really well, though I was surprised by just how little contact time there is overall (but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing).

I live in the cheapest college in the uni and bills are included, so I’d say it’s probably value for money. I understand that there’s not that much space but 10 people sharing one tiny kitchen is a bit of a squeeze - you have to get good at timing your meals around other people’s. The facilities are mostly fine, though there are/were a couple of faulty appliances (radiators, a toilet seat and one of the ovens).
