London is too far, those are the best nights there through the coach return buses put on, costing about £15 there and back plus entrance fee. But if it is study you are after then this is the place, definitely will be able to focus here, nice balance between pubs and work. Make sure you make the most of freshers though! They have really good acts here, 2013 they has Sneakbo, Weetus, Fuse ODG and many more which was highly enjoyable.

Being a first year at Royal Holloway i was quite apprehensive due to the comments of some people about it being boring and a poor uni. Since i have been here i have realised it is quite the opposite. I absolutely love the uni, my course and lecturers are excellent and i cant think of a time that i haven't enjoyed myself. Obviously as it isnt a city uni the night-life isn't going to be as wild, but the SU is always fun if you are out to have fun (many of you sound as if you cant make your own fun) and being so close to London we have so many places to go, train tickets are also cheap (highly recommend a railcard!!) Overall, i have loved my first term at Royal Holloway and i'm so glad i didn't let the bad reviews put me off. The campus and students are all so friendly and ive never been happier.
