The best part about king’s is the location which actually has little to do with the uni. Studying right next to Covent Garden was a dream come true and you have so many experiences at your fingertips. That being said, for such an expensive life, King’s needs some serious upgrades. If you don’t have classes in the swanky new Bush House, chances are you’re in a lecture theatre underground, sitting on a folding chair from the 70s. The admin is appalling - in 2nd year I didn’t even get my timetable until the 2nd week of term. Campus restaurants are great with pretty good food, but they moved the campus bar from a glorious spot overlooking the Thames to some kind of underground bunker and uni nightlife hasn’t been the same since. I’ve had a good time here as it attracts a good bunch of people, but the university needs to adapt to the current century and also stop paying the principal £400,000+ which causes lecturers to (rightfully) strike to try and get a living wage.

Most of the content is fairly clear and most lecturers were solid if a little boring. The only outstanding lecturer I’ve had was when I took an English class. Modules aren’t very varied and mostly focus on gentrification & geopolitics. There isn’t any help easily available for prepping for exams which sucks if you know you struggle with them. The field trips are a bit of a marmite moment. The first year trip to Spain was literally a waste of time and very boring but the 2nd year trip to India was a cool experience. They don’t encourage you to take elective classes to expand your knowledge, and if you want career guidance or study abroad you have to seek it out yourself so I think the faculty could be more helpful to their students. The admin is on it and very organised though.

London is an amazing city to be a student in. You can find a part time job in a heartbeat and there’s always something to do. It’s really inspiring to be in such a multicultural city full of ambitious people. Cost of living is eye watering and means I’ll probably never pay back my student loan, but I wouldn’t have gone to uni anywhere else. That being said, affordable areas to live aren’t always super safe and I’ve had my phone stolen out of my hand which was pretty scary. Having such good public transport is a big plus and it’s a pretty liberal city which is awesome. Too bad we have to share the city with Bojo’s awful government

Location was the best thing about GDS. 30 min walk along the river to campus, right next to Borough Market and London Bridge. Amazing spot for my first year in london. Actual halls were pretty grim, it’s really old and desperately needs a refurb. They put a gym in during my time there which was cool, but all the bathrooms had silverfish and got mouldy easily. At £800+ a month it wasn’t ideal but the new buildings are so heinously expensive you’re not left with much choice. I wouldn’t recommend these halls but I chose them for the location

It is a good university but we don't get enough contact hours here. We have two days a week off which is crazy for a degree. I live in Intercollegiate Halls and have found it to be a good experience. The facilities are good here at King's.
