University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I've loved my time here and I hope to continue, genuinely has been the time of my life and has taught me so much about myself and shown me that I can overcome any obstacle that gets in my way.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
I love our wetLab it's got plenty of space in it and has everything we need. Honestly my favourite part of uni, however that's not saying that there isn't good sport facilities as there's a sport village and pool right next to Singleton campus which allows dive training with SUSAC which is great fun, the libraries are huge, especially the one on singleton which plenty of study spaces, generally the onsite facilities are fantastic.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The university has great well being services which are pretty easy to access, if you ever have problems don't be afraid to reach out to your mentor or to the wellbeing team and they'll do everything they can to help.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The students union are always on hand to offer advice and sign post you to services which has been a huge help! Plus the freshers activities they prepare are generally excellent.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
When not locked down there's plenty of restaurants, cinemas, cafes, bowling, arcades etc around and if those aren't your thing, there's always the university societies which have movie nights or other events throughout the year, from LAN parties to diving trips it's all there.
It also helps there's a pretty active nightlife in Swansea if that's your thing, there are night busses that make travelling around pretty convenient, and the trains are pretty often if you're travelling from a fair distance or want a day out elsewhere.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are tons of sports available at Swansea, from archery to scuba to even Octopush (underwater hockey) which is great fun!
I highly recommend checking out the huge range of sport societies on offer.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
Having come from engineering originally I was at first sceptical about the flipped content that the course director was implementing, but I was made a believer when I saw that it enabled us to learn about a topic then do more advanced applications of it showing that we could really grasp the content and get help in class with stuff we needed help understanding rather than struggling to learn the topic in class and getting stuck on questions with no support later on.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
With the employability awards I believe the university does a great deal to give you transferable skills, with many courses implementing presentations in to their framework you also gain experience in public speaking which is a fantastic skill to have.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I am renting a flat privately, while it's cheaper than being on campus, you do run out of options if you don't look early, usually it's better to go in halls at first then organise with friends or classmates for accommodation in the term for the next year.
Generally speaking the faster you act the better deal you'll get and the better area.
There's plenty of differing private and university halls so you've got plenty to choose from.
