Heriot-Watt is a great uni to study at and i find it very enjoyable, however, the main drawback for me is the location. When you are a first year and living on campus, you’re quite far away from edinburgh and tasks like getting your groceries can be time consuming and draining, and when you are in other years and you live off of campus finding accommodation can be difficult and you can easily find yourself spending over 40 minutes each way getting too and from uni. I think that this not a big enough problem though and i am still happy to be at heriot watt and very much enjoy my course.

The course has about 12 - 14 contact hours per week and it taught mostly through seminars which focus on particular language skills such as written skills, translating skills and interpreting skills. The course is graded between exam and coursework with some semesters being 60% exam based and some 100% coursework based. you will also be required to take a culture based course each semester which usually only requires one or two essays as course work and no exam.

Edinburgh is a beautiful but expensive city. The busses are very useful and everyone under 22 is entitled to free bus journeys across the whole of scotland which saves alot of money

Halls at Heriot-Watt (and in the whole of Edinburgh) are very expensive and in a room that may cost you £120 per week in one city will cost you almost £160 at Heriot-Watt. On the brightside all accommodation is on campus and therefore close to classes and there are regular bus services into town (though they can be quite slow). Some kitchens in halls can be quite small though once a week a cleaner does come in and clean surfaces and the floor. I found my bedroom warm enough and my price included bills so i could have the heating on as much as i wanted. a big issue in halls for me was sometimes noise however this is not a heriot watt specific issue and happens everywhere. One con i found about heriot watt halls was that in each semester your room was inspected and you had to tidy it which ultimately wasnt that deep but it made me feel like i was in boarding school rather than university and the lady who inspected was quite rude and patronising
