Excellent facilities, ease of access to support and amazing lecturers make studying at Derby a pleasure. Additionally the general welcoming feel of the university and staff create a warm and supportive environment. I felt it on my first visit, and many visitors at open days also say the same (I work as a Student Ambassador at these events). Despite excellent facilities, this could always be invested in more. And more opportunities for PhD studentships through more investment in research would be great, and create greater incentive for the best staff to stay at Derby, in what must be a challenging and competitive industry.

My course, as an applied science, has lots of necessary contact time, which suits me perfectly. As such we don't have a lot of mandatory online content since lockdown ended, with face-to-face classes and labs preferable. All content is recorded and easily available to revise at a later date however, to supplement this. Classes for certain modules could benefit from more thorough prior planning to capitalise on the contact time. However, the vast majority (particularly those delivered by the programme leader, as would be expected!) are perfectly pitched to maximise our learning.

The best aspect is the “ real life” scenarios you are given when doing practical work. The content all feels relevant. The is always an opportunity to gain transferable skills. The worst aspect personally are the long days of lectures .
