So much stuff available as part of the course no matter what you want to do and staff are helpful and informed!

Good blend of lectures and independent learning

The facilities and technical staff at Bower are fantastic: metalwork, woodwork, ceramics, casting, enamelling, VR, 3D scan/print, pattern-cutting, screen printing, to name a few. The library is a friendly, relaxed and inspiring space to study. Student project co-ordinators to advise and book fabrication inductions and sessions. Spike Island is well situated in the Bristol Art community. The tutors and technical staff create a supportive environment for creating exciting work. There are so many opportunities to explore and expand your practise: project spaces, visiting lecturers, artist talks, gallery visits, weekly PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) sessions, regular group and 1:1 tutorials. UWE also provide opportunities to connect with the professional world beyond university within the Professional Practice module each year. There are established connections with Spike Island Gallery, Associates and Fellowship, the Arnolfini, The Watershed. There are regular student rep meetings with the university faculty which ensures that the student voices are heard. The only thing I would improve is the transport service between Spike and Bower - I highly recommend getting a bike! It's only a 7min ride, but a 30min walk.

The course is very self led. There is an underlying structure of guided learning provided but we as students are encouraged to use our initiative, expand on time management and project planning skills to develop our creative practices. The Visual Culture modules are mostly online with mixed results. The engagement is less but it is useful to have these lectures as an online resource.
