BIMM MANCHESTER is an amazing experience in itself. In the short time I've been their so far I have met so many talented musicians, interesting people and business connections.
Knowing other people that do events management at other universities it doesn't seem to compare to what Is possible to achieve at BIMM. The opportunities are endless and regardless of your taste in music there is really something for everyone.
The lecturers go above and beyond to help you achieve exactly what you want.
And due to smaller classes size you get to know your lecturer.
Although BIMM isn't a well established university yet I do not regret my decision to study there and would recommend it to everyone.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Their are almost no faults with the facilities at BIMM the mac suites are accessible to everyone along with all the music equipment.
My fault would be the building is too small, I understand that it is new and didn't expect the influx of students it got but whilst waiting for lectures to begin it is a struggle to find somewhere to sit. And when being in a theory lesson it would be nice if the rooms were sound proof to avoid distractions.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Student support is very helpful always regardless of your issue. Even on the phone they are very understanding of every situation.
Yet whilst In the BIMM building student support would be hard to access without asking reception. It needs to be more advertised and accessible to students without a third party being involved.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I can't really give a useful comment about a student union as we don't have one. As being at uni I expected to have one in able for student to mingle, so I was disappointed.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The city life in manchester is a big step up from what I'm used too! It's busy and the hectic life doesn't stop when you get away from uni. With manchester being the UKs most populated student area the night life is amazing, with more than one student night everynight. Yet their are also ways to get away from the busy life if you wanted too.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Again with being at Uni I expected some clubs and societies but their is next to nothing extra curricular for events students. The music students have full support with use of facilities to practise and it almost feels like a segregation between the two groups.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
When I first came to BIMM I expected lecturers to be "has been" in the music industry... But to my surprise ALL of my lecturers still work actively in the music industry so they know what is the current situation is and they are more that willing to share all their knowledge.
As for the courses they are better than what I expected by a long shot. Being an events management student I didn't expect to be doing live sound technology and music business, it gives us great options as young students to change what we want to do i life.
My only fault with the courses is that the difference between the events management and the music business courses aren't made clear enough on the website.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
BIMM has amazing connections that they are willing to share with you at any point. They are constantly trying to get you ready to enter the real world outside of being a student as much as possible despite being only in 1st year!
They are always encouraging of everybody every changing career plan and will do they best to help you out with new opportunities.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
BIMM doesn't have any accommodation specifically for their students but due to its central location there are lots to choose from! Although it would be nice to be in with just students of the same university it has given me the opportunity to mingle with students from other university's.
