A progressive and fast-moving university where students are valued and supported with whatever they may require. The university are keen to ensure each individual achieves their best potential, as well as preserving a fantastic campus and environmental space for students to enjoy throughout their degree. Catering for all aspects of student life, 'wonderful things really do happen here'.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The library is the hub of the university, providing excellent services to make sure you have everything you need when finishing that essay or preparing for that up-and-coming exam. The workspace is spacious, light and modern, making sure you feel comfortable and relaxed in an environment designed to help you succeed.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
There are a number of welcoming services that are on offer if you should need them, including the Centre for Wellbeing, which is a credit to the university with the support and guidance of trained and prepared staff on hand to advise in any situation.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The commitment and enthusiasm from those who work within the Union is incredible. The Students' Union at Surrey is now rated 12th best in the country and will only continue to move up the ranks with its determined outlook and dedication to providing the best student experience to offer. Our Students' Union is an absolute credit to the university.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Surrounded by Guildford, with a bustling high street, plethora of restaurants and green spaces, the University of Surrey almost has it all; but if you need to branch out, London Waterloo is only a cheap, 40-minute train ride away.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Offering over 200 societies, the University of Surrey has plenty to offer for you to get involved with including an active Student Media consisting of newspaper, TV and radio. You really are spoilt for choice.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
In the department of English and Languages, the tutors, lecturers and students, together feel like a small community committed to attaining the best coursework standard and inciting brilliant discussion in seminar, brining out significant thinking and ideas. Although small, it definitely doesn't detract from its achievements, and has a wide array of modules to offer to keep you engaged.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
The careers service is impeccable, providing presentations, resources and information on graduate employability and job as well as internships, work experience and placements.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Cheap, well kept and affordable. The wardens and ground staff run a tight ship and do a fantastic job in presenting the university as tidy, good-looking and inviting.
