The range of societies is amazing, and there truly is something for everyone. When I first moved to portsmouth I was terrified and severely homesick. However, the amount of support on offer at this university such as the well-being service and resident life really and truly added to me getting over my homesickness. In terms of the union itself, there are always events happening and things being advertised. I love the fact there are elected students officers that help run the union and campaign for what we us student want. There are a range of places to live to fit and suit all budgets. The library is spacious and has so many books, with many more online. There is also a lot of seating which is good for such a huge university. The buildings are all dotted around the city so if you want a more campus based university then this isn’t for you. Having said that, you get to explore where you will learn at the same time as exploring where you will live. The beach is literally on your doorstep which is an added bonus, alongside the range of independent shops and cafes alongside the seafront and further into the heart of the city. Bigger shops such as Tesco and Primark are also nearby to the main uni buildings. It really has it all! Facilities are great with links to the local theatre for drama courses, so many lecture theatres, classrooms, and even a television studio with equipment used in the industry. They offer a range of courses to suit all types of people in a variety of academic disciplines. One thing I love in particular are the opportunities to get part time work or volunteer. There are course representatives which collect feedback from students to improve their course, and this feedback is delivered at a student voice committee. You can also become a university ambassador which does pay you to help run open days, giving you plenty of experience to boost your CV! Inside the union is a shop with Portsmouth uni merchandise that is reasonably priced. Overall, a great uni with great things on offer!

Lectures are on zoom or pre recorded which works for some but not all. Seminars are in person which is great as they are more discussion based. You are assigned a personal tutor who really does support and help you. You meet with them on a 1-2-1 basis at regular times throughout the year. The modules are varied and there are plenty of options for second and third year. They do encourage years abroad and placement years to gain experience to add to your CV, which is good! Assignments are varied and not all essays. Some are due around the same time and this is managed by learning how to manage your time. Lectures answer emails rapidly on week days (they are not allowed to answer on the weekends) and they have office hours so you can always book a 1-2-1 to discuss an assignment or any other issues.

Diverse range of people from all walks of life! The uni bus is FREE and this awesome!

There are better halls out there, and this is not run by the uni but an external company called Unite Students. It is the best halls in terms of location and it is cheaper. However some rooms are considerably bigger than others yet the rent stays the same. Reception staff can sometimes be a little rude and lazy. Maintenance issues are easy to report but it can take a while to assign someone to come and fix something. They need more washing machines and tumble driers.
