The uni seems to spend a lot of money on buildings and fancy tech and not enough on its staff and actually improving its courses, I'd rather know my professors are comfortably paid than sit in a £1000 chair to study. I also think some courses are clearly favoured over others in terms of the level of investment in them, having been in the science buildings and the languages departments its impossible not to notice. The uni as a whole in my experience has been fun and interesting but I've also had many problems with it over the years.

Glasgow uni offers interesting teaching but I find the English Literature course too restrictive at times, I was near dropping the course for the first 2 years as i disliked the rigidity of the options so much, and only started enjoying it this year. I appreciate the introduction of more choice and freedom in third year but I don't think it should begin so late in the degree. My French degree has been mostly interesting throughout however at times I question why teaching isn't done in French, I feel it would vastly improve the level of French we can attain and if started in first year it would be so helpful in improving skills and confidence. The English department has a consistent problem with their marking - it has been late for almost every deadline every year of my course, I would be more understanding of this if it didn't feel a bit hypocritical to be so firm on students submitting work on time only to return our grades weeks (or months) late. I also have always had concerns about the marks in the course as it tends to feel very subjective - I truly believe you could give the same essay to two different markers and come out with a completely different grade from both of them. I never feel comfortable submitting essays as it always feels like a gamble.

In my year in Murano the doors were not secure - we heard multiple stories of people's flats being entered by people looking for parties and at one point there was a break in that was blamed on the residents even though the doors were incredibly easy to force open. For a while our buildings main door wouldn't close properly and could be entered without a key. The rooms were nice and the kitchen in the 5 person flats was good but could have done with a bigger fridge, it was practically a mini fridge expected to be shared between 5 people.
