De Montfort University is a really cool looking modern city campus. The support from teachers is great with constant feedback and support. It’s a great university for people looking for a city feel but scared to go somewhere huge like Manchester or London.

I'm currently on my third year at DMU (studying English Literature), and I've honestly never felt so optimistic about my future. I've made some amazing friends, I've been able to study AND give myself the chance to focus on my other interests, because of the range of societies I have access to. The help you are offered as a student here is great, because all you need to do is email someone and they make time for you! There are tons of resources readily available at the library, and the campus is also very visually appealing, it makes it fun to be there whenever I have lectures/workshops to attend. I also really love that I have access to things like a swimming pool, and coffee shops/places to eat all around campus, for very cheap. It's so nice knowing I can do things I enjoy while I study. Not to mention, it is very central in Leicester and around a 5 minute walk from the city centre, so if I have no work to do I can go for a walk around town between lectures. There are also opportunities to get work experience while studying at DMU, there are plenty of options for students here. And the lecturers will always try to help if you are struggling, they try to make your experience as manageable as they can. There is also a fabulous wellbeing department who are more than willing to book appointments, if not for something extremely urgent then to simply have a chat about something on your mind. I've been before and I was given very sound advice, and emotional support when I needed it. I definitely recommend coming here, and definitely join societies here!

My course has been really interesting so far, and whenever I have doubted myself I always had classmates to ask for advice, and my personal tutor is always able to help me. I'm currently preparing for my dissertation, and while it sounds daunting, I know that I'm not alone in it and my personal tutor is guiding me through the process (and I am someone who worries!). I'm in good hands at DMU. There is always information available through the massive library on campus. I like going there sometimes to just get some of my reading done, or to see if I can find any useful academic journals/sources for my essays. It's so simple to use the library resources and if you don't know how to, there are always people you can ask. The great thing about the staff/students at DMU is that you can ALWAYS ask for help without judgement. My course content has been great, it's perfect because you can pick your modules. I decided for one of my modules that it wasn't quite for me and wasn't where my strengths lie, so I simply asked if I could switch to a different module and I was guided through the whole process, and have now started to attend my new class :) Thing's have run smoothly and I haven't once felt like I couldn't ask for help.

Leicester is such a lively place to live. There is almost always something exciting going on, and there are so many fun things to do. From quiet, cozy cafés and vintage stores to secret bowling alleys and nightclubs, there is something there for everyone. There are natural spaces too for anyone who wants to disconnect from city life for a while, Abbey Park is roughly a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre. I have lived in Leicester my whole life and I still love it here! It's a great place to be, and most people around here are friendly.

I stayed in halls for my first year, and it was one of the best choices I've ever made! Newarke Point is essentially on campus, less than a minute's walk. It was clean (of course some students are untidy, but generally the building is clean! And the kitchen just requires for everyone to do their bit and clean up their mess), I felt secure and safe there, if there was any issues it was easy to send an enquiry in and support would arrive the next day. It was a wonderful experience and I wish I could do it again!
