Studying at Brunel University has been an enriching experience, both academically and socially. The best aspect of Brunel is its strong focus on research and the wealth of resources available to support students, from advanced lab facilities to access to numerous academic journals. The faculty is deeply knowledgeable and committed, offering valuable guidance that has helped me grow, especially in the fields of structural engineering and sustainable infrastructure. Being able to collaborate with experts and industry partners on cutting-edge projects, like my PhD research, has also been a major advantage.
However, one area that could be improved is the availability of study spaces, especially during exam periods. The library and other study areas can get quite crowded, which sometimes makes it difficult to find a quiet place to work. Additionally, while the university provides career support, expanding the range of services tailored to international students—like visa guidance and networking opportunities within the UK job market—would make a significant difference.
Overall, Brunel offers a fantastic academic environment with a strong sense of community, and with a few adjustments to facilities and support services, it could provide an even better experience for all students.

Course rating
Course rating
One of the best aspects of my course in Structural Engineering at Brunel University is the blend of theory with practical, industry-relevant skills. The course is structured to provide a deep understanding of engineering principles while also encouraging hands-on projects and research, which makes the learning process engaging and applicable to real-world challenges. The lecturers are knowledgeable and approachable, and they are often available for one-on-one discussions, which has been incredibly helpful, especially for my MSc and now PhD research.
On the downside, the course can be quite intense, with high expectations for independent study. The schedule sometimes feels compressed, especially around assignment deadlines, which can make balancing coursework with research and other commitments challenging. Additionally, more flexibility in course delivery would be welcome; while some sessions are online, having more hybrid options could make it easier to manage time, particularly for students balancing part-time work or family responsibilities.
Overall, the course provides a solid foundation and valuable expertise in the field, and with slight improvements to workload pacing and delivery flexibility, it would be even more accommodating for diverse student needs.

University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
What I like most about Brunel’s halls is their convenient location on campus, which makes it easy to get to classes, the library, and other university facilities without the need for long commutes. The rooms are comfortable and generally well-maintained, with amenities like en-suite bathrooms and shared kitchens that make living here feel self-contained and sociable. The campus environment is vibrant, with a good mix of students, so it’s easy to meet people and build a sense of community.
On the downside, the cost of the halls can be a bit high, especially considering that utilities aren’t always consistent. Occasionally, issues with heating or Wi-Fi crop up, and although they’re usually addressed, they can be frustrating. Some of the common areas could also benefit from more frequent maintenance, especially during peak times when they get a lot of use.
Overall, Brunel’s halls offer a convenient and comfortable living experience, though with a few adjustments to affordability and upkeep, they could be even better value for students.
