University of Huddersfield has a great atmosphere, the staff are always willing to help and the students union goes above and beyond to support any needs. There could be better support between some of the services at university as students find it difficult to know which services they can use if they need help. I feel as though this should be talked about more during the first couple of weeks so that students are aware of who they can turn to for support.

Most of my lectures this year have been in campus, however the lecturers also added pre-recorded lectures that we could watch before the seminar in order to understand the basics of the topic we would be focusing on in the class. Contact with my lecturers has been extremely easy as they answer within a day or two, mostly on the same day unless they are busy, and are always willing to book tutorials and 1:1s with students to give them additional support. I feel as though there isn’t always enough teaching hours and we have to rely heavily on researching for ourselves which I sometimes find difficult as I worry that I have researched the wrong topic. However the lecturers are always on hand to help even when we don’t have a seminar. I love how my course lets us do a placement each year as it allows us to be able to adapt our practice so that we know what to expect if we choose to be teachers or any other career aspect - there are so many to choose from that most of us didn’t even know we could do.

The location of the university is very central and the town centre and most accommodations are within walking distance. Public transport is easy to access and there are buses that stop directly outside the university. There’s plenty of shops, bars and restaurants near the university meaning a wide range of part-time opportunities for work. The only problem I have found in living in Huddersfield since I started my course in September is safety. There is a high crime rate in the town centre especially with spiking, stabbings and people being attacked a daily occurrence.
