University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I really enjoyed my time in teacher training it was challenging and rewarding. My whole experience allowed me to apply myself in several ways getting involved with areas such as the students’ union in society’s, representing the student body on feedback groups such as SSLC meeting, panels and working with the centre of pedagogy events.
The package as a whole gave me everything I needed and more to be successful as well as enjoying the experience which supported my development to where I am today.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The university and the students’ union offer really good facilities to study and work in.
There a lots of Bookable study areas and PC rooms for any group work, planning and small seminars, as well as, plenty of PC/Mac availability across campus and all sites.
The uni library has 24hr access at the main library and late hours access if you’re in a place like queens specialist building which makes everything a little easier if you need to get some assignment work done or printing etc. The wider university staff are also very approachable if you require additional support in specialist areas, I personally needed some support from creative tech and Design for my final project and they were more than helpful.
Everything else is just what you need.
However, some of the M-block windows leave a little to be desired.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Feedback is always clear and good; your personal tutors always make time for you and are easy to get hold of. The university has a good email policy, so the staff always get back in touch with you if you contact them.
The university has lots of different support service and staff are well versed in sign posting to the correct people. The additional services like student service and the life lounge are really approachable and will always do the best to resolve any question/issue you may have. Sometimes there is a little wait for somewhere like student services at peak time but nothing excessive about 10 munities max usually around enrolment times.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The students’ union is OK, it is small and you don’t really get to see many of the team on campus, but if you need to speak to somebody you can always get an appointment or just walk in. The union has lots of activities and works with all the sports teams and society’s around the university and the is plenty to be getting on with.
The union has been working with the university recently to offer new facilities to students to both work in and make life a little easier such as the new social/work spaces and free use kettles and microwaves on campus.
As before one downside to the union at the moment is the size of the team and its ability to engage with students.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Bolton is a nice town, everything you need is located in the centre, and there is a half decent night life. There are some really good places to eat and lots to do outside the town itself 20 munities north you in the country and 20 munities south you’re in the city of Manchester. But like every town there are places I wouldn’t go to.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
The university is like a little community, so you get to know most people and meet everybody at some point and this is reflected in the groups and society’s as well as the sports teams they are always welcoming and they have lots of events they hold in the social learning zone to get involved.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The course allows you to apply yourself how you want. It offers flexibility to grow as the course does. It is quite ‘Full-on’ however you are told this from the beginning and your lecturers, and a personal tutor support you and your development to ensure you are able to meet both the academic developments and professional developments of the course. Furthermore, the courses assessments are well placed so you have a really good feedback and development time between assessments.
There is a lot to learn in the time, however it is rewarding. One of the major challenges is the balancing of the overlapping of modules however the distribution of the assessment eases this, But as expected also prepares you for the real world.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
16
