As the University is surrounded by the South Downs National Park, it is truly a beautiful place to be. However, Brighton and Sussex are expensive places to live which is certainly a downside for students with low budgets. The 3-star rating for the facilities represents the entire campus. Some facilities are newly-built and modern whilst others are outdated and in need of a serious revamp, especially the science buildings. Sussex Estates is too busy building more expensive unnecessary accommodation which I believe, is being built out of greed. Overall, the campus is good (my course and the majority of lecturers are excellent) and you will have a nice time here, but if you take the time to learn about the campus and how it is being utilised, you will most likely come across issues which you may disagree with.

The Ecology and Conservation course at Sussex is taught by world-leading ecology experts. I've found the majority of course content to be excellent (with a few hiccups here and there!) and the field trips to be incredibly beneficial. The majority of lecturers are very passionate and knowledgeable about their subject. There is plenty of contact time and lots to be getting on with, especially if you also have a part-time job. Lecturers mostly offer an open-door policy and are always happy to arrange a chat if you are stuck with something or need advice. On the Ecology course, I think more time could be dedicated to 'Work Placements and Internships' as I have had to find all my opportunities independently and have not been guided by the University very much (the Career's team are great to talk with, but you are still responsible for seeking the internships). I like to think career prospects in this subject are good for Ecology students, but as it's a competitive field, it's very much "you get out what you put in." The facilities get a 4-star rating due to some being outdated (as mentioned previously), but field trips at Sussex are incredible and the tutors are extremely knowledgeable. In my opinion, Prof. Alan Stewart's trips are the epitome of field trips. Overall, I would give Sussex a 5/5 for its Ecology course, but admittedly a weak 5/5. Improving the facilities, ironing out a couple of hiccups, and internship discussions would set it at a strong 5/5.

It is the perfect location to study ecology and conservation. There are lots of opportunities to join projects and start my own project through the climate leaders scholarship. As a disabled student it took me nearly 3 months to have access to a locker. The recycling bins are not used properly. Students who ride to university do not have access to a locker for wet equipment. Due to its rural setting there is a lot of ground maintenance carried out using fueled tools that I feel a better strategy could improve the carbon footprint of the University. Communication between ecology, conservation and sustainability projects needs improvement. More departments could be involved in a sustainability projects.

Some lecture are very well structured with appropriate reading lists and are connected to the appropriate quizzes. Some are very intense and not linked to quizes. Some lectures are very late and not convenient for students with dependants. Lectures do not always record video or sound making it difficult for people to watch and take notes if they are unable to do this in the lecture itself. Reading lists are extensive for people who struggle with reading.
