Studying at the University of Aberdeen has been such a rewarding experience. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by how friendly and welcoming everyone was — both students and staff. The university has this perfect mix of history and modernity; walking past the beautiful King’s College buildings every day really reminds you that you’re part of a long academic tradition, but the facilities themselves are modern, comfortable, and well-equipped. The Sir Duncan Rice Library, for example, is one of my favourite places on campus, bright, spacious, and a great spot to study or meet friends. Academically, I’ve found the teaching to be really engaging. Most of my lecturers are passionate about their subjects and genuinely care about how students are doing. They’re approachable and open to questions, which makes learning much easier and more enjoyable. I’ve also appreciated the flexibility within my degree, there’s room to explore different modules, and the university encourages independent thinking and research. The student life here is vibrant too. There’s a real sense of community on campus, and it’s easy to meet people from all over the world. The Students’ Union does a great job organising events, and there’s a huge variety of clubs and societies to join, everything from sports teams to cultural groups and volunteering projects. It’s helped me make friends and feel like part of something bigger. Living in Aberdeen itself has been a positive experience as well. The city is friendly, affordable compared to many other UK university cities, and small enough to feel safe and easy to get around, but still full of character. The surrounding area is stunning, if you like nature, beaches, or hiking, there’s so much to explore nearby. If I had to mention one area for improvement, I’d say that sometimes communication between departments and students could be clearer, especially when it comes to timetables or admin updates. It’s not a huge issue, but it can occasionally cause confusion. Also, being in the north of Scotland means the weather isn’t always great, it can be cold and windy, but you quickly get used to it, and the warmth of the community more than makes up for it! Overall, I’ve really enjoyed my time at the University of Aberdeen. It’s a place where you can grow academically and personally, surrounded by supportive people in a beautiful and inspiring setting. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a university that combines high-quality teaching, a strong sense of community, and a truly memorable student experience.

Studying the MSc Data Science at the University of Aberdeen has been a really valuable and eye-opening experience for me. The course provides a great balance between theoretical understanding and practical application, which I think is essential in such a fast-moving field. The lecturers are knowledgeable and supportive, and they encourage you to think critically about how data can be used to solve real-world problems. I also appreciate how approachable the academic staff are; they are always willing to help or offer guidance when you are stuck. One of the best aspects of the course is the range of topics it covers. From machine learning and data visualisation to statistics and big data systems, you get a well-rounded education that prepares you for different roles in the data industry. The mix of coursework and project-based learning really helps reinforce what you have learned, and there is a good emphasis on using real data sets rather than just theoretical examples. I also found the research project to be a highlight because it gave me the chance to explore an area that truly interested me and to apply my skills in a practical way. Another strong point is the diversity of students on the programme. You meet people from all sorts of academic and cultural backgrounds, which makes discussions in class more interesting and helps you see data science from different perspectives. The facilities, such as the computing labs and access to software tools, are also excellent and make it easier to experiment and learn by doing. That said, there are a few things that could be improved. One challenge I noticed is that some parts of the course rely on software like Mathematica, which is not a very common language in the data science industry. While it is powerful for mathematical modelling, it would be more useful to focus on more widely used tools such as Python, R, or SQL, which are directly relevant to most data science careers. Shifting more of the practical sessions to these languages could make the course even more industry-focused. Another area for improvement might be the coordination between certain modules. At times, there is a bit of overlap in topics or differences in teaching pace between classes, which can make it hard to plan your study time efficiently. However, when this happens, the lecturers are usually quick to help clarify things or provide extra resources. Despite these small issues, I have really enjoyed the MSc Data Science programme overall. It has given me solid technical skills, improved my problem-solving abilities, and deepened my understanding of how data can be used to create meaningful insights. The combination of strong academic teaching, a supportive learning environment, and opportunities to apply knowledge in real-world contexts has made this a truly worthwhile experience. I would definitely recommend the MSc Data Science at the University of Aberdeen to anyone who is passionate about data and looking to build a strong foundation for a career in this field. It is a challenging course, but it is also incredibly rewarding.

It's been a beautiful stay at Aberdeen and my experience has been great. People are fantastic here and is friendly and they help a lot. That really made a good impact on my life at Aberdeen. For people who are travelling far from home to study this is a very good friendly place and would definitely enjoy.

Data Science is a subject where we have to put a lot of efforts on our end, a lot of self study is recommended. Classes have been fun, lecturers are very interactive and the class would not make you feel bored but the more you study the better it is.

Scotland is a beautiful place. The place itself has love in it. A good place for students to study. Just that it's too cold and chill, but once you get used to it, the people, the culture and of course the scotch! Just WOW!
