The campus is easy to navigate with everything relatively close compared with other campuses, and Plymouth is by the sea which is huge bonus. The library where you will spend time is cosy and staffed by people who are helpful and care. The lecturers are good and know their stuff and are dedicated and helpful. The Student Union offers considerable support and the onsite cafes between them provide tasty nutritious food at a reasonable price. In December 2023, the new Babbage Building for STEAM subjects (science, technology, arts, & mathematics) was opened. A visually exciting modern & spacious design, elegantly worked to be flexible for working in. It is much in demand and it is hard to book a room there already! I think my university tries hard to be a good university, and it is not perfect, but the overall feeling here is of students and staff working together to improve all our lots.

My course has been face to face throughout, apart from the strikes when lectures were recorded online. Recently, there was a reduction of a week from the whole year to facilitate a better university year for other aspects such as exams, graduation and events that matter to students. I have access online to resources, lecturers and seminars (recorded whilst I have attended) so that students who are not present can catch up or go over again. Our lecturers would give more time if they could. The reality of fees driving all universities is the same here and a general shortage of university lectures in the UK is no different. The lecturers are approachable online for tutorials and any questions during seminars. The seminars are well constructed and in my case 2 or 3 hours long. The year is divided into groups approximately 18, but attendance differs giving a great experience of time with the lecturer and an opportunity to get to know your cohort which is useful for learning outside of the seminar. I would add to the one hour lectures, time for questions & discussion after.

Plymouth is a large City and spread out over a significant area. it maximises its location by the sea with plently of related events. It hosts the annual fireworks competition for the fireworks that see in the New Year in London. It has zoos, an aquarium, lots of sports opportunities, Plymouth Argyl FC, the fantastic Plymouth Science Park with Derriford Hospital which is excellent for small businesses, patients and research. it can be very quiet during the holiday periods. It has changed significantly in the 9 years I have known it adding a new cinema complex and The Box Museum (arts, history and roving national exhibitions). Traffic flows could be improved and the Council could look more closely at other parts of the country to see how they do things and become much more modern.
