Overall, university has been really fun so far. I've met lots of new people and have settled into my course quite well - it's been good to meet people with similar interests and to study something I'm very interested in.

Job Prospects

How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?

They hold careers fairs, and there is a career hub underneath the technology school building

Course and Lecturers

What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?

I like how the first year course, so far, seems mostly progress based rather than test based. I have 3 modules during term 1 and only 1 has an exam while the other two are course work. The thing I don't like as much is the fact that all of our lesson blocks are 2-3 hours long rather than shorter periods - it can be hard on the concerntration but at least they usually have a few minutes break in the 3 HR sessions.

What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?

I think my student union is very hands on - they're actively encouraging and they recently developed a fun social space below the library where you can chill with friends and get drinks etc

Uni Facilities

How good are your university's facilities?

They are amazing compared to what I've previously had access to. The computers we currently use are fast and smooth, and perfect for the course.

Local life

Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?

The city is beautiful. As a non-drinker, there are a wide range of restaurants and activities that don't revolve around alcohol which is important to me.

Societies and Sports

How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?

Although there aren't as many clubs/societies as there are in other universities, the ones that are available are currently very active and are putting on events. In addition, people are encouraged to start their own so there are a few I think will probably pop up in a few weeks.

Student Support

How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).

The university is very student orientated. I have autism, and so have spoken with all my lectures about my special requirements (no problems) and have had meetings with health and wellbeing teams who are very nice and are very supportive. It feels like everyone wants you to succeed.
