Tell us about your overall university experience so far.

I've had a very hard time whilst studying at Northumbria, but the university staff have always been on hand to accommodate. I met lifelong friends through a Northumbria society, which I got a chance to be the secretary for in a time where social interaction mattered most and I'm grateful for that. I would always recommend Northumbria to any prospective student.

Job Prospects

How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?

There are regular drop in sessions for part time and full time work at the SU and there are departments in university for employability.

Course and Lecturers

What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?

The course is taught by people who are passionate about the subjects, and it really shows in the way they teach and interact with students. The down side is there's not enough contact time.

How many contact hours per week do you have?

Students' Union

What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?

The SU at Northumbria caters to a broad range of interests, it's a useful tool for any student.

Uni Facilities

How good are your university's facilities?

The facilities are great for my course, but the equipment loans stock is somewhat outdated (although the service is fantastic)

Local life

Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?

Newcastle is hands down the best city in the UK for student life, it's compact enough to walk across, it has varying scenery and lovely areas for walking. The nightlife in Newcastle is busy and popular; city centre nightlife is like marmite, you either love it or you hate it.

Societies and Sports

How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?

The societies at Northumbria are varied and numerous, allowing anyone to set up a society. As a former secretary of a large society, I can attest to them being fantastic at facilitating making friends.

Student Support

How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).

Academic support is great on my course, tutors are personable and can be reached most of the time outside of university in a very active course page on Facebook. Personal support at Northumbria is fantastic; the waiting list for NHS counselling services can be over 6 months for the first appointment, whereas university can take a matter of weeks at maximum, and there are trained professionals on hand (counsellors, mental health practitioners etc)
