Brighton is a great city to be a student in due to its vibrancy, events, inclusivity, being on the coast and close to the countryside too. The University of Brighton itself is very supportive and has great facilities. Downsides are that due to its popularity, accommodation can be expensive. There are different campuses which are quite spread out. I am based at Falmer which I like as its a bit quieter than the other campuses but has great modern facilities.

As with any institution, there are great lecturers and not so great lecturers and I would say my course has been about a 50/50 split. There were quite a few changes to the course while I have been studying i.e. campus change, changes to study platform, lecturers leaving and not being replaced and so there have been challenges for the leaders of the course and lecturers that I felt have impacted the teaching. The placements are sometimes difficult to travel to and the competencies are unrealistic with most placement educators not really understanding them or able to provide opportunities to fulfill them. They do however provide good insight into working in podiatry. Overall though, the course is good but very challenging and you will need to really dedicate yourself to study. Learning some lower limb anatomy before starting the course would really help!

Brighton is a great city to live and work in. I live near the Falmer campus, so it's easy for me to get in via car/bus/bike depending on the weather. The sports facilities are excellent, and the student support has been amazing. I started my course at a very complicated time in my life, and I feel well understood for the first time in my (long) academic experience. It also helps to have a great cohort. On the academic side, I wish there could have been a bit more anatomy teaching, but on the whole, we have covered so much ground in a very short time, and it has been such an enjoyable experience overall. Tutors are friendly and approachable and really want to help you do well. There are a couple of minor niggles – mainly administrative, but that's life. Nothing's perfect. On the whole, I have really enjoyed my time at the uni and can't believe it'll be coming to a close in a couple of months.

The podiatry suite was due to be finished before we started at Brighton but still seems to be a work in progress. It would have been good to have this facility open in order to have more practical learning with our tutors.
