Deciding to study at Central Saint Martins is definitely the best choice I have made in my life. It is an extremely lively university, with huge diversity in courses and people, and a responsive, contemporary course structure on the Graphic Communication Design BA. The tutors ease you into the new space during the beginning of first year, then allow you to explore the discipline with the guidance of a variety of lectures, processes and tutors with differing specialisms. The course unfolds progressively, and allows for an environment where non-judgemental, contemporary, experimental work and discourses take place, both between students and staff. Tutorials, crit sessions and an open staff and student base encourage hard work, failure and mistakes, through which I found to be able to grow the most, both in my professional practice and personal life. Students are very friendly, and we are encouraged to grow together rather than play pointless one-up games. The campus facilities are excellent, I never ran into any issues when trying to materialise my ideas. I am very much so looking forward to what the rest of my studies here have to offer and am definitely excited for the future!

The Central Saint Martins campus is definitely impressive in terms of facilities. There are separate studio spaces for my course, numerous printing, fabric, wood, metal, ceramics and digital spaces we have access to. Anything you can think of, you can probably make it, especially with the help of the amazing and supportive technicians! There are lots of spaces to relax too, canteen, benches and tables around the building, and even a bar!

Definitely! Two large train and tube stations nearby make it effortless to commute (even for someone like myself living in South London.) A Waitrose is right next to the university, alongside various restaurants and shops.

The most positive and exciting aspect of the course over others is definitely the conceptual nature of the work and environment. The course team and students recognise and cherish design’s value way beyond its commercial applications, which prompts a unique, exciting and provoking method of teaching. While not an issue for me personally, I am aware some students struggle with the openness of the briefs given. You definitely need to be driven and an independent learner to gain the most out of your experience here, which can be rather challenging to navigate for some.
