The layout of Manchester is great! There is still a campus feel despite being in a big city. It is really the best of both worlds as you can still feel as if you are part of a community, where you see your friends around and can walk into a room and feel welcome, whilst having lots of new opportunities wherever you look. There are lots of study spaces and a wide range of working environments. I feel as if there are lots of choices for social activities, but also no pressure to be socialising all the time.

The lecturers are all very passionate and supply lots of resources which are updated often if a student shows particular interest to a certain subject matter. A possible point of improvement could be having more time with our academic advisors as I have only seen mine once in a group setting. Having an advisor who teaches my modules would also be helpful.

Oak house is a great hall for the social aspects. There have been some issues with one of my flatmates due to his comments about my weight, my flatmates northern accent, and has said to my other flatmate that he thinks it’s funny when she talks about political issues (we are all girls). We have reported his actions to res life a few times and nothing major has been sorted out as he hasn’t found a flat he would like to move to. Other than that, I feel my halls are good value for money, despite it not being on any of my 5 choices of accommodation . I only had 2 halls in fallow field, the rest in city centre and all en-suite. After the initial shock of being given a shared bathroom accommodation, I feel as if I have settled in very well thanks to the good layout of the rooms en good sized communal spaces. Sometimes the main doors to the building and our flat will be left unlocked as they do not always close properly but this hasn’t happened for a while. I find that there is enough storage space but only 6 of us use the kitchen out of a possible 8 so am not sure how this would work at full capacity. The location is great as it is near the bus stop and close to lots of other halls. There is a great sense of community here and the windows keep out lots of noise so I always get a good night sleep.
