OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I couldn’t be happier with my university experience. The course is better than what I thought it would be, the location is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. It’s a very friendly campus, people are always there to offer help, the campus is easy to navigate, and it’s lovely to walk around. There’s so much on offer, whether there’s a cinema night or a performance at the Taliesin, a sports team to support, a university trip to attend, or even just a walk on the beach or in the park. The university accommodation is great, it’s not to rowdy, but it’s so friendly and it’s great to live in a building with so many people. The uni are also always in contact from different departments to update you on new events, projects or opportunities for work experience. It feels like a really lovely and very safe community. I know me and my friends have thoroughly enjoyed our experience so far.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Swansea is actually great in terms of employability, I know a lot of courses offer an employability module, and we’re constantly kept updated with ways to get involved with projects to develop our skills.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The thing I like the least about the way our courses are taught is probably how semester one exams are after Christmas, I know a lot of unis have them before Christmas break, which I think I’d prefer, as we can then use Christmas as a break as well as prep time for semester two. I like the way the modules are paced, they’re easy to keep up with and there’s always someone to talk to if you need to catch up.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
9
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
It’s great at communicating with the students via social media, it offers great events and it’s so easy to locate the office if you have any queries/issues. The people who work for it are also super friendly.
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Pretty good. The library is good, although, it’s probably not as great in terms of a study area as some of the other universities I visited on open days, but, there are other great places to revise around campus! The campus includes a theatre, a mini Egyptology museum, plenty of science/sports centres, and that’s just on the one campus. Not to mention there’s loads of places to get food, which is always good and cheap! There’s also an organic food store that’s environmentally friendly which uses less packaging on its products. Great.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Totally! Lectures are on my doorstep, there’s the town centre near by, beautiful places to visit such as Rhossili and Langland, there’s a museum near by, an art gallery, there’s always events going on in the nearby parked, plus there’s plenty of places to eat!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
I think the variety of societies is great, at freshers fayre, there was so many to choose from that there were 3 large rooms for how many stalls they had. I know people had a hard time choosing. I certainly did.
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Academic mentor meetings are always offered and your academic mentor is always reaching out to you so I would feel comfortable going to them if I had an issue as they make themselves very present and are very friendly. I’m not certain of what other support systems in the uni are like as I’ve thankfully not had to use them so far.
