I would suggest you work hard and play hard, it is the best time of your life being at this Uni but it is probably the most important time of your life to start it off as well so work hard and make it worth you coming and being in debt after you graduate.

Loughborough University boasts excellent academic and student support staff with a well funded chemistry department on top of its renown as the best place for sports studies. The campus feels very safe with regular security patrols and good maintenance. While the modern halls such as Robert Bakewell are of excellent quality and situated perfectly for a five to ten minute walk to most facilities, many older accommodation blocks have poor soundproofing and lack amenities such as sockets for electric razors/toothbrushes. Consider hall applications accordingly. As far as free time activities go, the university hosts several good societies (fans of tabletop games of any sort will be very happy here), but the students union is mediocre and the cost of living crisis has hit the campus shops hard. Alcohol-free vegetarianism is recommended for the best fiscal experience.

The STEMLab is a world leading, state-of-the-art teaching facility covering chemistry, physics, biology, engineering and computer sciences. The lecturers are all highly competent and approachable. However, contacting tutors for short notice appointments can be problematic as emails seem to frequently drop through cracks in the system, likely due to long term software problems affecting the entire campus network. If you need something done urgently, go in person like it's the 1970s. The staff won't bite!

The halls are excellently woven into the campus to ensure ease of access to all facilities. Regular security patrols ensure safety and it's a rare day when you won't see staff maintaining the grounds or construction work either putting up new buildings or renovating existing infrastructure. Due to persistent software problems, it can be difficult to navigate the student accommodation website or contact the accommodation team reliably. Go in person to the office though and there's a strong chance your problem will be solved on the spot. Campus wifi is intermittent, but of acceptable speed. Accessing it in the first place and adding new devices is needlessly overcomplicated. Computer literacy in both Windows and Mac is recommended. Prices are high, but that probably has more to do with the cost of living crisis than university policy.
