University of Sussex is a great place to study because Brighton as a city itself feels like a very inclusive and friendly place. I love its location as we have the lovely Brighton beach near us, many lovely nature- like places to visit and the brilliant Sussex University itself! I have always had great support from my academic advisors, mentors and professors and always feel comfortable to reach out for assistance and guidance when needed. The University feels cosy and homely which is a big thing for us University students as it really makes you feel a part of the institution, along with the great accommodations offered to be on campus and the many facilities that provide a good place for you to study - from the library, the student centre, Attenborough centre, and many more, it’s never a dull moment on campus! In terms of improvement, perhaps adding more contact hours for some subjects - in particular essay based ones may be helpful. My course has a total of 7 hours a week and some modules only have a seminar, no lecture, or vice versa. Having both a lecture and seminar per module creates a more solid understanding for me of the content, as well as creating further confidence to write my essays and work independently in my free time from University.

The best aspects of my course include the modules and the content we learn about. I enjoy being able to pick my modules from the annual lists the University provides as it allows more freedom for us to choose what we truly enjoy studying about. My lecturers and seminar tutors - in particular, have always been extremely helpful and kind, especially when assistance is needed. Student hours are always provided for us students if any guidance and support is needed from our tutors. In terms of improving the course, I’d like to see more contact hours and for both lecture and seminar to be assigned to each module, not just one or the other. This would allow us as students to feel more involved and knowledgable of our course and thus giving us more confidence in the long run when we have to write our essays.

In terms of how much I paid for my University Halls, whilst it was a little pricey I definitely think my room and the flat in general lived up to expectation. Each room was a good equivalent size, with a huge desk to study comfortably on, a nice beanbag to lounge on, a double bed and many storage compartments for all your belongings. The kitchen and lounge area was very wide and broad, allowing there to be plenty of space for all 10 of us students. Two sinks, hobs and ovens along with a long table and plenty of chairs were presented to us. We loved the patio in particular, was very relaxing to pop outside and relax for some fresh air. My least favourite thing about uni halls was probably the fact campus felt quite far from everything aside from your lecture halls and campus facilities. This made travelling into town and doing activities a bit of a chore at times due to the journey process. Aside from that I loved my uni halls experience, gained many great flatmates and found it lovely and homely that all students get to live near each other on campus.
