Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I do not think I have yet found a way in which to succinctly describe my experience at Loughborough. In an effort to be concise, however, all I could say is that my university has truly become my home and a place that inspires me to be a better version of myself every single day. I would not be who I am today had it not been for Loughborough.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
I would say that our facilities are very good, allowing students to carry on with their work, regardless of their departments or schools.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I would say that support is on the strong side - of course, there is always room for improvement. Our academic staff tend to be quite engaged with their student cohort, often helping us out as much as they can and within their knowledge. Of course, I can only speak for my department and school.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
With the risk of sounding biased, our Students' Union is truly incredible - not only do our Executive Officers pro-actively engage with the student cohort, but the LSU staff genuinely cares about us, constantly trying to find new, innovative ways to engage with us, all whilst catering for our needs.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
As a senior volunteer within the LSU and University, I do not tend to engage in activities within Loughborough itself. However, I would say that I have never struggled to find something I was looking for.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
In a word, amazing!
In many words, truly inclusive - with over 100 societies, students are provided with endless possibilities to find their home away from home, which is crucial at university.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
Most of our courses are quite interesting and provide students with opportunities to participate in lectures, which thus stimulates them and helps increase engagement.
Keeping that in mind, however, certain courses or, more precisely, lecturers, fall short in doing just that.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
12
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Both our University and Students' Union provide students with various opportunities to increase their employability, whether that means advertising events that directly link to future work placements or rolling out projects aimed to hone their transferable skills (e.g. volunteering projects).
