Campus has a really nice feel and when you're there its easy to forget your in a city centre. I lived in Park View in first year and its a very nice accommodation block and handy for lectures especially in the med school, and its also so nice to be so close to a park, though it is huge. There is always something on here, either through Uni or in the city and as someone who had never lived in a city before I felt comfortable here surprisingly quickly and am still exploring new places.

COVID did change the teaching style significantly and in first year we didn't have any in-person class or labs which wasn't the best experience. They did try to give us the same information but there's only so much you can learn about a practical skill by watching a video of it. This year (2nd year) we have had almost all in person lectures, seminars and labs. The lecturers did help us to feel comfortable in the labs though we were very inexperienced and it doesn't feel intimidating anymore. There are always teaching styles and modules you prefer and I personally don't focus well in lectures but especially this year I have more applied modules that are more engaging in nature which I enjoy more. I do appreciate that teaching during COVID is difficult but I think for first years it was particularly bad as we were just expected to know what to do without the opportunity to discuss or help each other as a lot of us didn't know anyone else on our courses, but now we are in person I am enjoying the course a lot more. I would also say that I was told to look at the lecturers' research interests before I applied to universities which I didn't do, but their research almost always controls the direction of course content and teaching style so I would definitely look at some of the research before. For example here at Newcastle the biology department is in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, so there is a general lean towards the environmental, agricultural side of biology, we still study other things of course but there is more link with that side than the medical side of research.

I think Park View was good value for money, I especially liked the big kitchen/living area which we spent a lot of time in. The two ovens and hobs came in handy a lot. Depending on which part of the building you are in you get a different amount of noise and view and you can't control this as the rooms are randomly allocated. My window faced towards the Baddiley-Clark building and was fine except you do get noise from people walking back from a night out and we were in Alwin (the first building) on the fourth floor so everyone who lived there walked past ours. I am now in private accommodation and I really miss being so close to both Leazes and Exhibition park and campus. Also the general spaciousness of it and having your own bathroom.

The opportunities so far have been great and all the spaces available for either independent or group study are amazing, easy to get to and there is genuinely somewhere fro everyone. For improvement I’m not too sure it's all been really good so far

Best aspects is the fact that mainly all of the teaching is in person and the content were learning is exactly what I wanted it to be, I just don't like nine am lectures.
