Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I have loved my university experience as making friends and having independence was great, i have enjoyed my subject and studying. the university itself is a great place as it provides a lovely atmosphere and lovely staff.
in relation to stress, it has definitely increased as studying is increasingly hard and money is a constant worry but I've enjoyed learning what works well for me and how I adapt.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
the university provide great facilities, all the buildings I have been in for lectures have all the required technology. most halls have recording equipment so you are able to re listed to a lecture. They all provide several screens so you are always able to see.
the catalyst is new and provides everything you need, I find the laptop port the most useful as you are able to lend a laptop for the day and return it after a lecture or study. the catalyst also has a computer count which is highly useful as you are able to check online how many computers are available so you don't have to wonder around looking which floor is move available.
the university also has the SU which is good for when you want a break or to eat and socialise, providing a great food variation and sitting area.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
academic wise it varies from tutor to tutor, some are more helpful than others which i truly believe shows in the grades. within lectures however I always feel welcome to ask questions and ask for help if needed.
personal, i do believe the university provides a great range of support. I have been involved in a not so pleasant experience during university, however I received great care and understanding towards this incident. they were professional and approachable and also offered my a wide rang of help that was lovely.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The student Union in terms of student representation is great, the students involved are always very kind and willing to take on ideas. they also are very active on social media which is great for staying up to date with what is going on at the university.
the facilities provided are mainly in the centre of campus which makes it easy to find and everyone is welcome there which is great as they are always welcoming for a suggestion.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
yes, my accommodation is based within the town therefore only a ten minute walk away from the university which is perfect for easy trips to library, lectures or talks.
Also my accommodation being in the town is great as shopping is easier as there is less of a distance to travel with heavy bags, as well as being handy if you many have forgotten to pick something up.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There is a large amount of societies within the university which is great for the variation, there is definitely something for everyone. However in relation to the sport societies there is always a stigma around the people who take part in them which many motivate people to not want to join. On the other hand all societies provide a great chance to make friends and get active outside of studies.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I like the fact that there are trips and activities involved within my course as the lectures are more entertaining, they also provide a way to socialise more and get to know the other people on your course.
the least thing i like about my course is the relationship with some of the lecturers as some seem to be more focused on there own study than others.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
16
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
the university is always sending email updates in relation to jobs now or in the future, as well as providing CV and careers meetings if needed. they have a wide range of information in relation to employability which really puts you at ease when you feel over whelmed or confused about what path you may want to go down in the future.
the university holds many career fairs which is great to get to know companies and employers. you are able to ask questions in relation to what the company may be looking for and what they require. this gives you great understanding and a stepping stone to what you need in order to get your dream job.
however as a biology student these career fairs don't really provide many science options, it is only really beneficial to attend to really just get a boarder knowledge of business out there if you have a change of heart and don't want to do a science based career.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
safety 10 out of 10
condition 10 out of 10, I live in a newly built building where I have my own studio. The facilities provided are well looked after and has student needs as their number 1 priority.
the cost of my accommodation however is rather pricey giving me very small budget for food and study materials, which means I have to maintain a job in a local store between study hours to provide myself with enough money.
