University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my university experience. The uni has a very homely atmosphere, and I enjoy that the uni is small so everybody knows each other. I would really recommend this uni, and feel that other people would enjoy it as much as I do.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The university's facilities are very good, especially the labs for the biology department, as they are very modern and function well, and we have access to them during all working hours so that we are able to carry out work for our dissertations whenever suits us best. Also the new library is very useful and has lots of working space, so I enjoy using these facilities to go and get my work done in an environment without distractions and with lots of resources.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The support offered by the uni is very good. We have lots of personal tutor meetings and meetings with our dissertation supervisor, and they are all very responsive. Some tutors are better at giving feedback than others, but overall most tutors are very helpful.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I think that the Students' Union is good and hold lots of activities which are good to encourage first years to get involved and meet new people. I do not get involved with the SU as I do not feel confident going into new scenarios and meeting lots of new people.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
There is not much city life aa this Unuversity is located in a small town, however the town centre is just a short walk away and has lots of amenities which can be enjoyed during the day, and one club which the students go to during the night. Liverpool is also a short train ride away, so this is useful for when the selection of shops and clubs in the town centre is not enough.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are lots of clubs and societies, and there seems to be a society for everything you could want !
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I enjoy that we have a wide range of module to choose from so can tailor our degrees to best suit what interests us, and I also enjoy the various opportunities that we arw presented with, such as summer internships, and when I also had the opportunity to help present my work at an international conference held in Italy. However, I don't like that we have to do presentations as assessments, as these are not necessarily applicable skills to future jobs, and people can make themselves so nervous that they get ill. Instead I would prefer that we were able to choose an alternative method of assessment, which would be better for people who struggle under these conditions.
How many contact hours per week do you have?

Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
I managed to secure and complete a summer internship at the university which I feel has improved my employability greatly. I have also had my work presented at the International Congress of Extremophiles in Ischia, Italy, which is very rare for undergraduates and makes me stand out whilst applying for jobs. I find the careers fairs held by the university really helpful as it provides that opportunity to form networks and find out more about what various employers do as part of their day to day routines. The careers center is also very helpful regarding CV help, and will also provide guidance when going through the job application process. Over my years at university so far, I have had multiple CV workshops which I have found incredibly helpful and have given me so much more confidence in my CV.
