University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Courses are in-depth, uni has so many international links (study abroad opportunities, graduate employers abroad), vibrant and modern, each campus has a totally different character, money is being spent to improve the campuses and facilities all the time. Absolutely love it here, and can't think of a bad thing about it at all.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
So many private/group study spaces and comfy chill-out areas throughout campus, as well as food outlets selling affordable hot and cold food. In the School of Science and Technology in particular, there are more labs than you can shake a finger at, in all disciplines and for students and researchers at all levels. There are over 6000 computers available on Clifton campus alone, so you've always got somewhere to settle down and get some work done.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Excellent support for those with late student loans, for students with disabilities, and for anyone who wants to start preparing for the world of work. The Employability Team are always helpful in improving your CV and suggesting ways to get involved with volunteering in the local community.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Nearly 100 societies affiliated with NTSU, covering a range of interest areas, from academia to hobbies to Fez Wearing (yep, that's actually one of our societies!) Heavy emphasis on our sporting successes mean that our sports clubs are among the best in the country, and the SU throw club nights throughout the week with great drinks deals. Definitely covers all non-academic aspects of uni life and entertainment, and a great asset to the university.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Nottingham is a beautiful city, with events regularly happening in the central Old Market Square. Being a heavily student-populated city, there are clubs and pubs all over the city, to appease to all tastes - there are the normal nightclubs you'd expect, reaching a few thousand in capacity, as well as a substantial rock and metal scene, and even "Sobar", a 0% abv bar located just off the Market Square. Lots of chic shops in the fancy bit of the city too.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Countless societies spanning across all interest groups, and our sports clubs are consistently ranked within the top 15 in the country. There's definitely a society here that you'd enjoy, no matter how obscure your interests!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
My course is taught in just the right amount of depth - enough to get you excited and want to research deeper without having everything spoon-fed to you. Facilities are top-quality, with an observatory on campus to use a £1m telescope and record your own data right here on site. Lecturers are clear and easy to understand, and make lectures engaging - you won't be falling asleep on the back row of the lecture theatre!
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
94% of graduates find themselves in employment or further study after 6 months, which is an exceptionally high rate. Links to countless local, national and international businesses and a heavy emphasis on sandwich placements make it common to engage with a company while studying and have a job lined up ready for you upon graduation.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Fairly standard stuff, and for an affordable price. Everyone in halls bonds so well and a community soon flourishes, which is perfect when you first move in and don't know anyone! Maintenance is on hand to fix problems hastily, and the halls are on campus so they are secure. New Hall is a bit fancier and far more expensive, which is probably quite nice but a little too pricey for what you get.
