University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Overall, very positive. I've experienced independence for the first time and the university has made it very easy to deal with all the changes in my life. My studies are going well and my grades are consistently higher than expected. The social life both on and off campus is great and the people I've met have made me feel very welcome here.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The university's facilities are very good. The shop on campus is clean, well organised and everything is in working order. The canteen is clean and organised, as is the Starbucks on campus.
The classrooms and lecture theatres are always organised and clean, and cleaned regularly. They are also warm and have good temperature control.
The library (Catalyst building) is clean, modern, warm, and welcoming. The facilities within the building are modern and work correctly and quickly. The study rooms are always quiet and the room booking system is efficient. It is a pleasant place to study.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The support provided is exceptional. Both tutors and the wellbeing teams are on hand most of the day, and are easy to communicate and get in contact with. The help desk in the Catalyst Building easily directs you to where you need to be.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The SU does a very good job of making students feel welcome, listened to, and understood. The SU bar is clean and tidy, and very welcoming and comforting, as is the shop.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The university is located ten minutes (walking) or a short bus ride from Ormskirk town centre, which has a plenty of amenities for students. In addition, there is a forest nearby which students can go to to relax in.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are a wide range of over 40 societies and clubs on campus ranging from religious groups to kpop, and harry potter to circus skills. There's even a murder mystery society! The clubs are easy to join, and they all care for their members, old and new.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I like the ease of communication with tutors. They're almost always on hand for you to talk to and raise queries with, and during the seminars they are approachable, kind, understanding, and patient. They're also able to have a laugh which makes the seminars much more enjoyable.
I dislike the lectures because they are not very engaging, and its very easy to lose concentration during them.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
The university provides plenty of opportunities for job searching and job applications. There are careers fairs at least twice a semester, and the university also provides part time jobs on campus to students.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The cost of the accommodation is suitable for what it offers. Founders East is clean, tidy, and comfortably warm. It is also cleaned every morning during on weekdays. It is located on the edge of Campus, next to the main entrance and the bus stop, making it ideal for when you're dragging heavy shopping and/or laundry bags back from town. It is also located on campus so it is a brief walk from all of the facilities and locations on campus.
