Wonderfully welcoming environment for postgraduate researchers, a diverse community, and genuine sense of seeking to provide the facilities to make us feel well cared for. Great library, warm and with a fabulous mix of study spaces. I love the Basil Spence campus design, however, it is let down by lack of lighting in between buildings which makes navigating the steps in dark & rain precarious, not least for the safety aspect as a lone walker at night. Student union is friendly and feels genuinely student-run, and bar and union shop are better for it as a result Downside of it being a campus university, however, is that there are a limited range of shops and catering facilities on site, and shopping and coffee in particular are expensive. Food better value!

Strongly interdisciplinary approach to research which meant a great deal of opportunities to learn from scholars outside of my narrow focus of activity. It did feel hard at times to keep up with all that was going on without being on site, and perhaps missed out on subject-specific facilities. Supervisors seemed genuinely interested in giving up time to steer research.
