Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
My university experience has been the most, challenging, confidence building and eye opening experience. My university years haven't been the most easiest, with different events etc happening during my years here that have really pushed me to my limits. However, thinking about what I am studying and the opportunities I have been given through my course. I believe that I have been quite lucky in that regard. Art is my passion, and UEA has certainly helped me achieve much more than what I expected during my time here. Such as, I was able to go on a year abroad in Canada. And that was certainly one of the best years of my life, personally and educationally. Therefore, UEA has been an experience and a half.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Uea has struggled with their mental health facilities and students during the last 3 years or so. Which has proven to be very difficult for them. Students are always talking about how they need more mental health help, of which I agree with.
Other facilities, like essay help, hubs etc. Are good in terms of facilities.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I have always had good support by the university. When wanting counselling, I was given a very nice counselor who helped me a lot along second year.
Medically, I believe that the health centre is pretty good.
With tutors and feedback, I have always struggled. Therefore, my experience isnt the best in that area.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I think the student union at UEA try their best to be as inclusive as possible. Especially during events such as Black History Month or LGBTQ+ Month too! They arrange different cultural food stands at the Hive at the student union place too, which helps learn students about different cultures and also bring a source of variety too. It also helps students who are struggling to cook etc. to eat well too. Especially, during final season.
Other things include:
- variety of events to help feel included and active
- a nap room to help being rest and peace for students
- mental health facilities
- if you're feeling uncomfortable at any time, or in any situation, you can go to the any gender toilets and place yourself in a cubicle where there is a poster that gives you help on who and how to contact university facilities to help you in the situation that you're in. There is a cubical number for you to help locate yourself for a security team or whatever.
- a coffee bar with food and deals
- a student union bar
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Yes I believe so. There are numerous shops, takeaways, pubs, entertainment places like a cinema quite close to the university. Therefore, it is situated in a good location at Norwich. Makes student life more better and entertaining. You can arrange plans with your friends easily
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There is a plentiful of choice of sports and societies in UEA. I like the fact there are cultural societies for even cultural minorities at UEA. The sports range is pretty good too. There is definitely something for anyone. There is even a cheese and wine society which is pretty cool!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
What I like the most about my course is where it is taught. It is taught at the Sainsbury Centre of Arts and I feel very privileged and honoured to be able to learn there amongst the collection of the museum and gallery.
The restrictions in module choices are what k dislike most about my course.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
6
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
We've got careers central that helps students with their future etc. Very helpful, they send emails to help you too and give you updates.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
In terms of safety, there are two things that pop into mind. The location of my accomodation I would consider pretty safe. I am a young woman and it seems that I can walk at night, not having to worry too much about my safety. However, the house itself could do with more safety, locks on the inside of bedroom doors etc.
The location of the house is good. It's situated in the golden triangle of Norwich. Therefore, I am close to town and to the university itself. I'm pretty lucky to be able to live here.
Cost of the accomodation I believe is in the range of affordable. I have a double bed bedroom and an ensuite.
