COMMUNITY- the university, being campus and the way that it is is very open and friendly to all, they try and support in all aspects and they are able to, therefore, create a safe environment for many. To a certain extent they are so free/left in their views that even me as a relatively liberal person feel if I expressed certain things I would be criticized, but that is also the nature of my course. For the most part- people are friendly, inclusive and curious which allows for many ways to fele PART of uni but also with the space to be yourself in your own time. Would highly recommend UEA, but also would like to remind people that the "best 3 years of your life" is crazy because for me it hasn't been all of that, and I am realizing that that is ok and if I enouy it, learn stuff and learn about myself and others and make some good friends then that is ok too. Also- the LCR is the best- it has concerts with people like Lewis Capaldi and Dodie and it is so cool for that to be on our doorstep.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
I would say yes, but recently when trying to help a friend get around some of the lecture theatres it was a challenge- the wheelchair accessibility is not good at all. Yes, some places offer access but not everywhere that really wouldn't be hard to- so it makes people feel isolated.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Some tutor feedback is better and more efficient than others, and personal support I know the waiting time is so long I don't really try and apply for help through them. However, academic/personal support of tutors for dyslexia are very good and helpful- they helped me to get diagnosed and gave me assistance with the whole process and help after so really impressed with that.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
They listen and provide things to the utmost safety- in terms of providing for societies and sorting funding etc... it is a bit slow and sometimes things get lost in communication. But once you start to understand the system of the SU it is a lot better, although a lot of the events are not relevant to me and they seem to spend a lot of money on them, they seem to have some releance to a group of people at uni so I like that inclusivity.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Yes- the shops are more expensive because of its locality to the uni and lack of further shops- btu everything you need is either on campus or close. There is a wonderful park nearby which I find super nice to take a break to- this was the same last year, SO MUCH GREENERY.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There seems to be something for everyone- personally I haven't signed up to sports clubs because of the crazy prices of insurance there are and the fresher night events for initiations scare me.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I like the variety of teaching styles and the amount of coursework and presentations but I do not like how they change course content/structure after explaining it one way. I.e. I chose a module as it was coursework and no exam and then they added an exam in once I had already started the module. Deadlines don't really get spread out which is hard- but the teaching styles and teaching from experts in the field as lecturers is amazing and I honestly sometimes ENJOY listening to them talk and explain topics.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
9
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
They run lots of events but they seem to be during times I have lectures etc... they have the space and give time to it but I feel it is very easy to bypass.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Very good, it was reasonably priced- close to uni but also close to the city without the city prices. I know some houses tend to miss out on a lounge etc... in replacement for a bedroom- but our house has one which is much more homely. The estate agents are a bit of a pain sometimes we have heard, but for the most part, we have had a positive experience and there is a bit of damp- but it is mold that you could get in many houses and has not grown at all.
