I love how Uni of Bath gives a half campus and half city atmosphere. As the campus is a little further from the city but not too far as the city is easily accessible. Most buildings are fairly modern which I like although it doesn’t give off a ‘traditional’ feel. I also love the small activities that are hosted for students whether it’s a nice walk/arts and craft/movie night. All students are welcomed and there’s a really strong community here. However, a big issue for me personally as a first year student at Bath, is the accommodation allocations. Although we were given the option to submit 7 preferred accommodations to join, none of mine were considered. Furthermore, I had chosen all accommodation on campus and have been placed in the city. As well as it being much harder to socialise with other first years on campus and joining society’s, the journey to campus is a big factor which we have to worry about. Especially the additional £460 fee of bus tickets in a year which only city students (who may not even wanted to live in the city) have to worry about. I think it would be nice for either the bus fees (for first years) to be included if you are in the city or at least more of a discount.

I absolutely love studying architecture at Bath. Firstly, the studio is beautiful and is open for students 24/7. It is very spacious and a great atmosphere to work in. The project work I have done so far is very exciting and it was a great opportunity to get to know new people as we were put into groups on our first day! I really like how the course also focuses on the real world in the practice of architecture which gives a good insight of what the future will be like. I also like the balance between content from project work, the history/theory, the built environment and structural engineering.

If I am honest, this accommodation was not in my preferred choices I had submitted. I expressed how I felt previously in the ‘Tell us about your University’ section. However, I did get lucky with my flat mates and I think this was the only reason that I had chosen not to fill out an accommodation transfer application. The advantages of living here is that it’s close to the shops and the entire city, so whenever you’re bored it’s easy to get out and about. In addition, going out during the night of course! I had got very lucky being placed in the new block (KA) of John Wood Court which has been renovated making it more spacious and included an elevator in the building. It would have been a lot harder if this was not the case. Overall, I think there are both strong advantages and disadvantages of living in the city as a first year.

bath is an awesome campus, buildings re old and ugly, some, however the sporting facilities are amazing. you shoul choose bath people love it it is lots of fun. go bath
