The Uni itself is a lovely, friendly environment, and feels more like a studio or industry like a University. It is also incredible with student support and also student activities and giving students a voice. The animation department is perfect for me- the staff all have industry experience and links, and the employability rate is about 70-80% in the animation industry.

Perfection- if you're not getting help, it's because you've not told anyone about your issues!

Alumni include Aardman, Framestore and Karrot studio employees, also including students who have set up BAFTA winning studios and have worked for Hayao Miyazaki, Disney and Pixar.

facilities on campus are okay but restricted mostly to their own courses, theres no chance to try anything different. student support is good with free councilling sessions and advice is easy to access. student life is okay, theres always events on, but as the uni is quiet small there isnt always things availble that arent conflicting or are for everyone location is okay, good that we have a beach and lots of open spaces, however as it is a town the public transport isn't the best and the shops availible are basic for living but without much range. think about if you want to live in suburbia or not because that is where you will end up. its good for students not looking for a busy city experience but dont want to end up somewhere too out of reach and isolated. the campus is okay, but its difficult to navigate, maze like in places with little to any maps or signs direcing you around. you have to know how to get to places before going or you will get lost. su is good, always have activities and events, are there for you if you need their help or advice, they might not be the traditional student union with a bar but they still know how to entertain.

its hard to rate this as we spent 1.5 years suffering from covid restrictions. the content of the course is amazing, they teach you from the bottom up, i have learnt so much here that i thought i already knew or that i thought i would never know. althought there are things i would like to be improved and this we missed out on learning because of covid. overall i enjoyed learning and what i have learnt from this course. the lecturers are all amazing and know what they are talking about without being too obnoxious about it. all of them have industry experience which positively effects our learning. i just wish there were more of them split over our large course size as i feel they are spread rather thin. our contact hours have gone from 3-4 days a week to 1 (if you are lucky) throughout this 3 year course. in first year we were given small group tutorials weekly, however now in third year they offer us sign up 1 on 1 tutorials, which i dont mind too much as it allows students to work independently, however some students who need more guidance do suffer from this. in all 3 years we have been given 3 oppotunities to get work placements, they each offered around 5 people placements each time and with a course of 70-80 people i dont think thats enough as man jobs expect you to already have experience in industry. i feel that they sometimes the course teachers expect you to find work placements on your own but don't try hard to help you look. career prospects are good as the uni has a good reputation, however the tutors have flat out said that less than 10 of us will get a job immediately after graduating which is worrying to lots. the facilities are excellent with industry standard software and hardware- but we are not given sufficient time to learn how to use them. being able to use software is a big thing in this industry so the fact that we are almost expected to learn how to use them on our own is a bit of an issue - especially as we don't have much time outside of the course to do so.

bournemouth is a seaside town. without the uni's it would be a even smaller run down holiday destination much like the rest of the coast in the uk. the cost of living is okay, not as bad as cities, i think its the same as everywhere else in the uk right now. the transport is spotty. one of the major bus companies went under in the summer of 2022, and the other company is still trying to pick up the slack- the council have done nothing to help this. the buses struggle to stay on timetable which makes trying to get anywhere difficult as the area students live in is around 40-60 minutes walk. i would not say bournemouth is bike friendly despite there being several bike lanes- if you are road confident it is okay - if you arent then dont bother. other than working for the uni there are no job oppotunities here. bournemouth is relatively safe, much like the rest of the uk there is plenty of crime here. the parks at night are not safe to be in, they arent much better during the day either to be honest, just keep your wits about you. the residents who live here dont like students, they will do anything to complain about us or be unfriendly toward us- there are some lovely people however so don't let that scare you. if you are a poc or lgbtq please be careful as there are alot of motivated instances toward minority groups. there are some part time oppotunities but as there is 2 medium sized universities the chances of actually getting one of those jobs are slim. Winton - the place where all the students live - has the highest population of lgbtq people in the whole of dorset. i think that tells you everything you need to know about bournemouth. the students are very diverse and accomodating - its the residents who already live here that are the ones to watch out for.

cheapest halls at the time - were £150 per week i stayed here during covid (2020-2021) this was my experience during that time: location is good its close to lots of supermarkets and shops, a park and the beach, the road the entrance is on is nice and quiet. it backs onto the motorway which makes it extremely loud and is rather distracting to work. to open the windows is a nightmare as there is always a black dust that settles everywhere in your room, and it is loud. we didnt get to choose our rooms so i don't know how to rate the room allocation. value for money, it was not the nicest place to live and compared to other unis the price is a bit high for what it was. in bournemouth in general - every accomodation has en suite toilets, which was probably the best part. as i was staying their during covid we had no common spaces to hang out with friends or meet people, during september to may we werent allowed guests, we werent allowed other students from other flats in our building to visit. if you didnt break the rules it was isolating and awful. it was pretty safe with a front desk that would not let anyone without a keycard into the building without reason. the security did their job of shutting down parties and such. we did have an instance where one of the guards had to be reported and fired for inappropriately approaching a situation- however the uni dealt with that case swiftly. wifi was good - in my memory it only went down 4-5 times the whole year. management team were okay, not too friendly - but they always answered emails swiftly and repaired damages within a week or so.
